{"id":1114,"date":"2019-12-23T08:54:19","date_gmt":"2019-12-23T16:54:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/solarpowerinvestor.com\/?p=1114"},"modified":"2022-06-15T22:35:14","modified_gmt":"2020-04-24T03:47:38","slug":"oil-giant-rebranded-as-energy-giant-recent-transactions-are-showing-us-why","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/solarpowerinvestor.com\/oil-giant-rebranded-as-energy-giant-recent-transactions-are-showing-us-why\/","title":{"rendered":"Oil giant rebranded as Energy giant: recent transactions are showing us why"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.equinor.com\/\">Equinor<\/a>, formerly Statoil, upgrades shares in <a href=\"https:\/\/scatecsolar.com\/\">Scatec Solar<\/a> by 5.2%, a transaction that values Scatec at around US$1.5 billion.<\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The purchase price per share is NOK 116 which compares to the closing price on 19 December of NOK 110.5 and to Scatec Solar&acirc;&#128;&#153;s equity issuance price on 24 September of NOK 116.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Equinor has acquired 6,500,000 shares in Scatec Solar, corresponding to 5.2% of the shares and votes, at a total purchase price of NOK 754 million.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Following the transaction Equinor owns a total of 18,965,400 shares of Scatec Solar, raising its total shareholding to 15.2% of the shares and votes.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>It comes just over a year after Equinor, formerly known as Statoil, first acquired an interest in Scatec,&nbsp;picking up a 10% stake in November 2018. It was shortly followed by the&nbsp;completion of a 162MW solar project in Brazil&nbsp;that the duo worked on together.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:quote -->\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>&acirc;&#128;&#156;Through this acquisition of additional shares in Scatec, Equinor further strengthens its exposure to the fast-growing solar energy sector. Since acquiring a 10% interest a year ago, we have continued to work effectively with Scatec&acirc;&#128;&#153;s management and now we are capitalising on an opportunity to acquire an additional stake in this high performing company.&acirc;&#128;&#157; <\/p><cite>P&Atilde;&yen;l Eitrheim, Executive Vice President for New Energy Solutions in Equinor<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n<!-- \/wp:quote -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Scatec Solar has thrived in 2019, confirming at the start of the year that it had&nbsp;more than 1GW under construction in six countries, including a&nbsp;bifacial solar project in Egypt, a&nbsp;65MW array in Malaysia&nbsp;and a&nbsp;raft of solar farms in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:quote -->\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>&acirc;&#128;&#156;Our shareholding in Scatec Solar remains an important long-term investment for Equinor and reinforces our strategy to develop a strong position in renewables to secure lasting value for our shareholders.
